May 30, 2011: BioCentury Article Focuses on ACTION

This week's issue of BioCentury includes an informative article describing the ACTION public-private partnership and its objectives. The author of the article interviewed Dr. Bob Rappaport (US Food and Drug Administration), who spearheaded the development of the partnership, and Dr. Robert Dworkin (University of Rochester), the Director of ACTION. Dr. Rappaport emphasized that "We've seen over the years that analgesic clinical trials frequently fail, and often with drugs that we know work. When opioids that have been known to be effective for hundreds of years are put in clinical trials, we can't get a positive result ... It has become clear to the entire pain community that the problem is with the trials, not with the drugs." The complete article can be found on page 13 here.
